The Viltrox AF 35mm F1.2 LAB Sony E-Mount is a fast full-frame prime lens made for photographers and filmmakers who want a wide aperture without giving up autofocus. Its 35mm focal length is versatile enough for portraits, street photography, events, lifestyle work, and video, while the f/1.2 maximum aperture gives you plenty of control over depth of field.
It is part of Viltrox’s LAB series, which focuses on high-end optical performance while keeping the lens practical for everyday shooting.
Bright f/1.2 Aperture
The standout feature is the f/1.2 maximum aperture. Open it up when you’re shooting in low light or when you want to separate your subject from the background.
At f/1.2, you can create a shallow depth of field with a soft background, making the lens particularly appealing for portraits and cinematic-looking footage.
You can also stop the aperture down when you need more of the scene in focus.
Versatile 35mm Focal Length
A 35mm lens sits in a useful middle ground. It gives you a wider perspective than a traditional 50mm portrait lens while still providing a natural-looking view.
That makes the Viltrox AF 35mm F1.2 LAB suitable for:
- Street photography
- Environmental portraits
- Weddings and events
- Lifestyle photography
- Travel
- Documentary work
- Video production
- Everyday photography
For creators who want to carry one prime lens for a variety of situations, 35mm is a particularly practical focal length.
Full-Frame Sony E-Mount
The lens is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras. It can be paired with Sony Alpha mirrorless bodies ranging from compact full-frame models to higher-end professional cameras.
It can also be useful on APS-C Sony E-mount cameras, where the smaller sensor produces a narrower field of view.
Fast Autofocus
The lens includes autofocus, making it easier to keep up with moving subjects and changing scenes. This is especially useful for photographers who don’t want to manually focus every shot.
For video creators, autofocus can also be helpful when recording handheld footage, interviews, or social media content where subjects move naturally through the frame.
Smooth Background Blur
A fast prime isn’t only about low-light performance. The wide aperture also gives you more creative control over the relationship between your subject and the background.
When shooting at wider apertures, the Viltrox 35mm F1.2 LAB can produce a shallow-focus look that works well for portraits, close-ups, and cinematic shots.
Useful for Video
The 35mm focal length works particularly well for video because it gives you enough room to include your surroundings without making the scene feel excessively wide.
Use it for talking-head videos, documentary footage, music videos, weddings, or narrative scenes where you want a natural perspective with the option of shallow depth of field.
Professional Build
The LAB series is positioned as Viltrox’s higher-end lens range, and the 35mm F1.2 follows that approach with a solid build designed for regular use.
For photographers and filmmakers who shoot frequently, having a lens that feels substantial and dependable can be just as important as its optical specifications.
