The MB-T12 is Tilta’s lightweight answer to a studio matte box. A carbon fibre shell and aluminium hardware keep the weight down, while three fixed 4 x 5.65″ stages give you the filtration depth of a far bigger box. It clips straight onto the lens, so a small mirrorless or cine build does not need a baseplate and rods to carry it.
This version ships with the 80mm back, which clamps onto lenses with an 80mm front diameter. Backs in other sizes are available separately — the matte box body stays the same, so one box can follow you across a mixed lens set.
Three 4 x 5.65″ trays come in the box. All three stages are fixed rather than rotating, which keeps the assembly shallow and rigid; if you need to rotate a polariser or a streak filter, do it in a geared stage or on the lens itself.
The included top French flag hinges up out of the frame and folds down to kill flare from a high key or a practical. The five-piece hard matte set covers 16–20mm, 24–28mm, 32–35mm, 50–85mm and 85–180mm, so you can close the box down to the lens in use and stop reflections bouncing around inside it.
A 15mm LWS rod bracket is also included. If your rig already runs rods, mount the matte box on those instead of clamping it to the lens and the glass carries none of the weight.
